WEEKEND WARRIORS

in the weekend, we pretended it was spring when we ran around the park and then over to the greenmarket.
we avoided the internet for a full 24 hours and regained our imaginations.
there was kale and bacon pop-tart baking, pottery painting, and plenty of strolls through town.
i acquired lots of jars which marked the beginning of a grain library and a pickle hobby.
eggboy sang eggman and the next morning featured andy griffith and barney fife.
add one embarrassing game of scrabble where i picked all of the x's and eggboy all of the e's, some civil wars, and tea with the queen
and yes, i'd say it was really quite a lovely few days.

RECIPE: SWEET POTATO HAMANTASCHEN

there are days when you only eat vegetables and then there are days when you only eat hamantaschen. around these parts we like to call the latter "taking the dollar now." as opposed to saving up your dollars to feel "good" at the end of the day. you know? as in, this weekend i felt super good and happy as i ate about twelve thousand hamantaschen right in a row, but on sunday night my belly h88888ed me. with a capital 8. which isn't to deter you from making these... rather it's to encourage you to make them because they are so good but you should keep some extra humans on hand to help eat them.

oh p.s. if you're like what is a hamantaschen? what is a chag purim? letmegooglethatforyou {bc gods only know i'd get the purim story mixed in with the easter bunny.}

p.p.s. be on the lookout soon for black sesame hamantaschen and sacrilege spinach + gruyere hamantaschen!

recipe: hamantaschen dough
{based on betty doman's hamantaschen, courtesy of anne schulman {mother of brian of "brian is numnums"}}

2 sticks of butter, softened
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1 egg yolk
pinch of salt
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
powdered sugar, for dusting

in a large bowl with an electric mixer, beat butter, cream cheese, egg yolk, and salt. add flour, half a cup at a time, to form a dough. wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for two hours.

shameless loves, by mary

things that mary loves
{but really probably shouldn't}

wearing headphones as a headband.
gorging myself on chocolate snails and grilled cheese sammies on paleo cheat days.
gorging myself on chocolate snails and grilled cheese sammies on regular paleo days, too.
painting my nails essie "olé caliente" immediately before every performance.
rocking out to taylor swift radio at work.
ordering a tall-whole-milk-two-pump-kid's-temperature pumpkin spice latte and soaking in the stares.
wearing my minnetonka kilty suede mocs every day for every occasion. it's obviously why they come in so many colors.
eating homemade marshmallows with breakfast, because they aren't made with all that extra fake stuff, right?
telling the cashier at sephora i'm going to save my 1,276 beauty insider points for later.
mustard-based bbq sauce in easy mac. it's love.

thank you, mary!
and a very happy no shame november to you!
